Student Leadership
Developing strong leadership skills in our young people is a key focus for the academy. Whether it’s being selected as Head Students or serving as senior prefects or as a member of the academy Student Council – student voice matters to us!
It’s important to us for our students to participate fully in shaping our school community. Our student leadership structure allows our students to have a real say on issues that affect them as well as coming up with solutions to improve how our academy is run. Every tutor group in every year has an elected representative on the School Council, and this group meets half-termly. Fundraising was on this half term's agenda, and the main focus for next half term will be improving our environment. This year we have extended our leadership programme to all year groups, and now have prefect representation from years 7 to 11. All prefects will be undertaking the SSAT Student Leadership Accreditation this year, which will involve the creation of an externally moderated portfolio reflecting their work both within the academy and their community.
In Year 11 we also have a Student Leadership Group, consisting of our Head Students, Senior Prefects and Prefects. This group has tremendous responsibilities which reflect their leadership qualities, including the smooth running of Open Evening, Presentation Evening and Parents' Evenings. The team are also working closely with Beaumont Primary Academy to strengthen campus links. Exciting times ahead!
Both student council members and prefects may be required to attend additional meetings as and when required.
