Students will have two areas to cover: Health and the People (HT1 to HT3) and Restoration England 1660-1685. For Health and the People Home Learning will focus on AO1-4. This will be specifically aimed at the 7 themes for this part of the course. Students will study the importance of the following factors: (All 7 are recurring themes throughout the Topic and units) · War · superstition and religion · chance · government · Communication · science and technology · the role of the individual in encouraging or inhibiting change. Students will also have Home Learning based on the following key questions: This option focuses on the following questions: · Why has there been progress in the health of the British people? · How and why has the pace and scale of medical development varied at different times? · What impact has medical progress had on people and society? · How and why have different factors been more important than others for individual medical developments? · What is the significance of key individuals or events in the history of medical development? Assessment will be Formative every lesson, checked against Learning Objectives (see below). There are also low stakes quizzes and Question documentation that focus on the key information that the students must know for their GCSE exams. Summative assessment happens every two weeks with a RED zone GCSE Question. At the end of each topic there will be a formal exam style assessment that produces a GCSE grade. In Year 11 all students will sit a summer GCSE exam that covers all topics taught so far. This will give a GCSE grade for the year and will assist with set placements and intervention. For Conflict and tension between East and West, 1945-72 this will focus on AO1-2 specifically as the largest part of the awards for this GCSE are knowledge, content and its application. We will focus on Q2, Q3 and Q4 with Q1 covered solely in lessons. 100Q and Revision materials will be used to support each home learning task. · Focus on Political/Cultural and Social changes that took place between USSR and USA because of conflict and tension · Character of major figures: Stalin/Khrushchev, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Castro · Focus of differing political ideologies: Capitalism and Communism · Focus on nature of power in USSR/Warsaw Pact · Moral argument – weapons of mass destruction (Arms Race) · Moral argument – spying/espionage For Restoration England (1660-1685) the Home Learning will be based upon the Historic Environment packs and the written and visual sources contained within them. 2023’s topic will be Jamaica and the Restoration. This will focus on the sources and will involve research of specific evidence to fulfil the criteria from AQA. This will link very closely to the Y7-9 courses and is one of the reasons why we have changed the Historic Environment Module for 23-24 Assessment will be formative every lesson, checked against Learning Objectives (see below). There are also low stakes quizzes and question documentation that focus on the key information that the students must know for their GCSE exams. This will be directly related to the Home Learning. Summative assessment happens every two weeks with a RED zone GCSE Question. At the end of each topic there will be a formal exam style assessment that produces a GCSE grade. In Year 10 all students will sit a summer GCSE exam that covers all topics taught so far. This will give a GCSE grade for the year and will assist with set placements and intervention. Working independently, away from the classroom environment allows students to develop their skills and ideas in a personal way and build an individual approach to their work. Art- Homework at GCSE is always related to and forms part of the students’ current coursework. Each project is part of their portfolio work submission and therefore each homework task contributes to their final grade. Homework tasks include visual research e.g.; taking photographs outside of the academy, observational studies, material experiments, reviewing and refinements and artist/designer analysis tasks. Photography- Homework at GCSE is always related to and forms part of the students’ current coursework. Each project is part of their portfolio work submission and therefore each homework task contributes to their final grade. Homework tasks include visual research, artist/designer analysis tasks, take images, use online photo editor packages such as Photopea and present the work completed in class. On some occasions, this homework might be ‘flipped’ in nature, where students carry out learning ahead of covering the topic in class. Students will be expected to take photos outside of the academy. Food and Hospitality and Catering- homework focuses on recapping knowledge from the lessons using the online platform SENECA, knowledge organisers, and GCSE bite size. Since students complete a full suite of mocks at the end of Year 10, their Year 11 teacher begins the year with beneficial data that informs their planning, moving forward. We know that students often find revision overwhelming and struggle to know where to begin, so their teacher will set a range of revision activities and exam style tasks, which suits the needs of their class, and ensures that they are able to make progress, following the mock data. The class teacher will carefully guide students through the steps of revision, for each of their Literature texts and basic Language Skills. Using heavily researched and tested methods regarding recall and retention, students are asked to re-read their Literature texts, identify relevant quotations, and context, engage in a series of tasks designed to help commit these to memory and build a set of flashcards. Revision is also supported by GCSE Pod, which the class teacher will use efficiently, again with the aim of supporting recall and retention of texts, contexts and quotations, due to the closed-book nature of the exam. Students are also guided through exam questions, and wider reading resources, to further support their retention and application of GCSE skills and knowledge, and beyond. |

As part of our commitment to enhancing student learning in Key Stage 4, home learning will be structured around Sparx Science tasks that are directly linked to the concepts being taught in recent lessons. This approach allows students to consolidate their understanding of both current and previous topics, facilitating a deeper mastery of the subject matter. In addition to the Sparx Science tasks, students may also be assigned supplementary homework aimed specifically at honing their exam technique. This practice is essential as it prepares students for the rigours of their forthcoming assessments. Furthermore, a variety of additional learning resources will be made available on the class Teams page, ensuring that all students have access to a wide range of materials to support their studies. Each week, we will utilise the insights available through Sparx Science to pinpoint areas where students may benefit from further challenge or clarification. By effectively linking home learning back to classroom instruction, we aim to create a cohesive learning experience that promotes academic growth and confidence in the subject. |
