Local Academy Board
Glyn Barker (Governor)
As a teacher and leader in sixth form colleges for 24 years, education has been the core of my career background. In addition to being a teacher of A level History and Government & Politics during this time, I was also, at various stages, a senior pastoral tutor, course leader, Head of Faculty, and latterly, Assistant Principal in two sixth form colleges in the North of England. During my tenure in this role at Huddersfield New College, the institution was graded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, with no weaknesses noted – the first and only time this has occurred for a Sixth Form College. The College also provided me with the first opportunity of being a governor, as a member of the College’s Audit Committee.
Since leaving the teaching profession, I have worked for Thelma Walker, the MP for the Colne Valley constituency, helping constituents in day-to-day casework and specialising in co-ordinating educational links between the MP and local schools and colleges. I hope to be able to use my experience to help Beaumont Primary Academy and Moor End Academy to further success.
