David Boyd – Subject Leader of PE and Sport

From leaving school, Mr Boyd has always been passionate about working with young people in a sporting setting. His roles included an outdoor pursuits instructor in France and Shropshire, an alternative curriculum mentor for four secondary schools and a Pastoral Year Leader (initially for one year group and then KS3).

Whilst working as a Pastoral Year Leader Mr Boyd graduated with a first class honours degree in Sports Science (BSc) through Manchester Metropolitan University. This degree was completed over five years as a distance-learning student.

Upon completing his Sports Science degree, Mr Boyd qualified as a PE teacher in 2016 with a PGCE from The University of Huddersfield. Mr Boyd has worked at Moor End Academy since qualifying and has held the position of Events coordinator for Sports for the South Pennine Academies Multi Academy Trust before progressing to Curriculum Leader of PE. Mr Boyd moderates for Edexcel to support his teaching, he mentors NQT's and is currently taking his National Professional Qualification in Middle Leadership.

Mr Boyd aims to increase the number of students that participate in sport at MEA and hopes to inspire the next generation to have a lifelong participation in sport.

Outside of school, Mr Boyd continues to enjoy playing and watching a range of sports, particularly football. He is married with two daughters and a Beagle.
