Caroline Wilson - Acting Lead Teacher of Visual Impairment Resourced Unit

Caroline has not always been a teacher, despite this being her childhood dream. Instead, she began her career in recruitment, recruiting Fashion Buyers for well-known high street companies. After eight years, she finally followed her dream and qualified as an English Teacher in 2011, with a PGCE from Leeds University. She has spent the last seven years at Moor End Academy, starting as an English Teacher going on to gain experience in academic and pastoral roles, including Head of House. She quickly discovered a passion for teaching students with additional needs and, in 2015, became Moor End’s first Teacher of SEN (Special Educational Needs). To support this role, she completed a distance-learning course, achieving an Advanced Diploma in Special Educational Needs from Leeds Beckett University and the Certificate of Competency in Educational Testing (CCET) and Access Arrangements Qualification (CPT3A) through Real Training.

In 2016, she was asked to train to become a Teacher of Visual Impairment (VI) and in September 2016, she began the Masters-level mandatory qualification to teach children and young people with visual impairment; a two-year distance-learning qualification from Birmingham University. In January 2018, she took over as Acting Lead Teacher of VI to cover maternity leave, managing a department of 12.

Her experience in both aspects of school life has made her passionate about ensuring that each child receives an educational experience that meets their individual needs, academically, socially and emotionally and that each child has the opportunity to achieve their potential. In addition to her main role, Caroline is also a Subject Tutor for two English trainee teachers who are training with the Huddersfield Horizon SCITT.

Caroline is mum to two children aged 17 and 10 and in her spare time plays netball for a local club
