The Next Step for Moor End's Leaders of Tomorrow!

Huddersfield New College works closely with Moor End Academy, so that their pupils can continue take their next steps to becoming the leaders of tomorrow!

Pupils achieve exceptional results at the school and are enabled to progress to their future ambitions after college. Huddersfield New College, which was the first Sixth Form College in the UK to be judged ‘outstanding in every respect’ under the current rigorous inspection framework, also posted fantastic results in 2018. With a 100% pass rate for both A Levels and Vocational A Levels, and a 66% high grade rate (A*-B, or equivalent), the college is one of the highest achieving sixth forms in the country.

Although academic results form an important part of the decision making process, choosing the right college is a personal journey for pupils and their parents. The college shares many of Moor End’s core values, working to develop young people into respectful young adults, who are ambitious, and who take responsibility for their future! Below we hear from two Moor End students, and their reasons for choosing Huddersfield New College as their next step.

Julia, who is studying A Levels in history, mathematics and psychology, chose the college after attending an open event. She says “During my final year at Moor End, I was nervous about my next step. I felt settled and supported at school, and I worried about how I would copy with the transition to college. After attending an open event at HNC, I felt less worried about my move! The staff and students were so welcoming that I immediately knew it was the right place for me. Now that I am here, I really enjoy my study programme. The college helped me to pick subjects that I am genuinely interested in, and although the subjects I am studying are challenging, the teachers here make lessons enjoyable and engaging, which motivates me to work to the best of my ability. I feel so supported and I am proud to be a part of Huddersfield New College”.

Zargama, who is studying a BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Science, chose the college for its outstanding facilities and course choices. She says “When I realised that I could study my favourite subjects in one course, I was so happy! I’ve always loved the sciences, and the BTEC in Applied Science allows me to study biology, chemistry and physics together in one qualification. The support from my teachers and my Progress Tutor is incredible; I know that I am in the right environment to succeed. The facilities here at college are exceptional - the science laboratories have everything you need (and more!) and there are computer rooms on every floor of every building, so it’s easy to complete my practicals and my coursework to the very highest levels.”
