Presentation Evening 2023
Presentation Evening 2023
This year we celebrated our annual presentation evening at Cathedral House in Huddersfield on the 16th November. This event is a very important occasion in the MEA calendar as it allows us to celebrate the fantastic achievements of our current students and our Year 11 leavers.
Alongside our academic achievement and effort awards across the curriculum we also celebrated awards for our Leaders of tomorrow, Ambitious learners and the Principal’s World Class Award.
This year we were lucky to welcome back our former head students to introduce their Diversity award. As part of their work as head students they ensured that the diversity within our academy was not overlooked but celebrated, culminating in Moor End Academy's first-ever Culture Day, where everyone had the opportunity to participate and embrace the rich diversity within our community. This was awarded to a person or group, which had gone above and beyond in making significant contributions to promoting and embracing diversity within our community, by promoting inclusivity and having key contributions to cultural awareness.
We had musical interludes performed by students in Year 8 and 10 which showcased the musical talents that are taught within the curriculum and as part of our extensive enrichment offer.
Each year we present two very special awards; The Carly Blackburn award and The Gavin Griffiths Award for Physics. Carly Blackburn was a talented and hard-working student who faced numerous obstacles in Years 10 and 11. However, despite enormous challenges, her determination and dedication meant that she went on to achieve outstanding GCSE results in 2018. It is in recognition of her spirit of perseverance that we created the Carly Blackburn Award.
Gavin was a former teacher of physics who sadly passed away in 2018.This special award keeps the memory of Gavin alive in our school community through celebrating outstanding achievements in physics.
