Head Girl's Speech
Open Evening September 2018
Thank you for joining us this evening, its so lovely to see so many of you here.
Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Sara Shafi. As a year 11 pupil and current head girl I am well versed in all the wonderful things Moor end Academy has to offer. I have attended the Academy since 2014, when I began my secondary education as a fresh-faced year 7. I was, understandably a little nervous of the transition, wary of the bigger children and unsure if I would ever find my way around the school. However, it soon became clear that the Academy had careful, well thought out plans to help mitigate these fears and make the transition as smooth as possible. From collaborative transition work with local primary schools and an excellent peer mentor system to supportive Heads of Year I was soon settled and ready to learn.
This transition work is key to settling year 7s into to school life to prepare them for their learning journey towards their GCSES. Of course, it goes without saying, learning is the business of Moor end academy, and it is something which we excel at. From passionate and expert teachers to fun and engaging lessons, the academy offers everything your child needs to succeed.
Formal learning in well planned lessons are undoubtedly vital to pupil success, however the academy also recognises the wealth of learning that can happen through enrichment opportunities such as sports teams, afterschool clubs, visits from specialists and trips. whether your child’s interests are football, singing, trampolining or engineering there is something happening here for everyone. These opportunities not only increase learning but also enhance school life and promote wellbeing.
Of course, the success of a school is not just measured against grades, lessons and after school clubs but in how the school ethos supports its pupils, visitors and staff. Here at Moor End Academy, we endeavour to foster a safe and positive school environment. We pride ourselves on instilling our 3 core values of respect, ambition and responsibility. We want pupils to strive to succeed, develop a strong work ethic and develop resilience to overcome barriers and challenges. To ensure this happens, high standards of behaviour are expected. At the Academy, we set good examples to younger students, we support and respect each other, treat each other fairly and celebrate our differences.
As head girl, alongside head boy we play an active role in supporting these values. We lead the school council to ensure students voices are respected and heard and have a dedicated team of prefects who help us direct students in the right direction.
In summary then, Moor End Academy offers both excellent academic opportunities and quality extracurricular activities in a positive, safe and inspiring environment. We believe this makes us an exceptional choice for any student and ensures we live up to our mission statement of “Be the best- become the leaders of tomorrow” We look forward to you joining our school community and our journey to world class.
