'Almost ... Strictly' 2015
The third annual ‘Almost… Strictly’ Come Dancing event has become an integral part of the Moor End Academy festive calendar. Both students and Heads of House compete for the Glitter Ball Trophy, dancing with partners from their respective houses. The night was kick-started by the Heads of House, Prefects and House Captains dancing to the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ theme tune. Heads were turning as Mr Kalischer perfected the samba point!
Mr Bradshaw, in the role of Craig Revel Horwood, cruelly crucified the dancers but he was quickly shouted down by fellow judges, Mr Bickerdike, Mr Atkinson and Mr Styles as Darcey Bussell, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli respectively. The student dancers were brave and confident but there could only be one winner. A superb performance by Marija and Holly, of Plato House, danced to ‘Get Stupid’ by Aston Merigold, sealing the judges’ votes and winning the student competition.
The House Leaders nervously waited during the interval in anticipation of performing in front of a busy Moor End crowd. Miss Holmes and Miss Green of Da Vinci House got a huge round of applause as they gangster danced to ‘Soulja Boy’. The stars of the show, however, were Miss Butler and Miss Naylor of Plato House dancing to ‘Lose Control’ by Missy Elliot. The crowd were tired just by watching their energetic performance. They deservedly won the staff competition.
Proceeds of the evening were donated to Academy Funds towards provision of rugby posts for the Academy. A huge ‘thank you’ to all students and staff who bought a ticket and were involved in the running of the evening, including Mr Griffiths and his form who provided refreshments through the ‘Giving Nation Challenge’ initiative being run in Year 9, the proceeds of which went to ‘cancer research UK’, the national cancer charity.
